So my feature today is my BFF Katie from BlookGirl.  Katie and I have struck up an awesome friendship through our love of books and we spend our days texting and chatting... pretty much constantly! I love her very dearly and appreciate her friendship so very much! I've asked Katie to write a little about herself so you all can get to know her as well!

My Feature

Hi, everyone! My name is Katie Tuccelli, and I am the Creator of BlookGirl.com, a YA/MG Book Review Blog! I live to write, I love to read, and I am a coffee addict. These may or may not be understatements.

I come from a long-line of book lovers. Ever since I can remember, books and stories have been a big part of my life. About 6 months ago, I discovered a new love: Book Blogging! What better way to combine my love of reading and writing than to write about reading?! Since I started blogging, I have met so many amazing authors and bloggers, and I can say that it has truly changed my life.

I read mostly YA novels, though I do make time for some MG and Adult novels, too. I find that I really enjoy reading series because it gives me a chance to really bond with the characters and invest in their stories. Some of my favorites are The Hunger Games and The Divergent Trilogy, and others that are becoming series, such as Masque of the Red Death, Cinder, Under the Never Sky, and Hemlock. I love discovering new authors and genres and am open to reading almost anything!

Other random facts about me include: Both of my parents are deaf. My favorite color is purple. My favorite accessory is my B&N NOOK Tablet. My three dogs, Godric, Sookie, and Kashi are my world! I have pictures of my dream home library hanging in my office. I once wanted to be a Geologist. I have been head-over-heels in love with the same man for seven years. I was a fan of the Twilight series. No jokes!  ;-)

It's almost Friday! You know what that means, it's blog hop time!!!

You are a matchmaker - your goal, hook up two characters from two of your favourite books. Who would it be? How do you think it would go?

If I was to do this I would probably take the opportunity to teach Edward Cullen a lesson.  I would fix him up with Allison Sekemoto from The Immortal Rules.  She was a kick ass character who could hold her own and I would like to watch her put Edward in his place.

This weeks Feature & Follow is an activity! I love these ones, so here we go!

Activity: Dream cast your current read.

I am currently reading Wicked As They Come by Delilah S. Dawson. I'm only about 100 pages in and we don't really know too many of the characters, and the ones we have met I don't know too much about them. But, I'll wing it! So, right now we know Leticia & her sick grandma, Criminy Stain and Casper.

I chose Natalie Portman for Leticia simply because I think she is a phenomenal actress and she can pull off pretty much anything.  Also, Leticia is a girl who wakes up in an alternate world and she copes really well and adapts, Natalie has played her fair share of roles that take the character out of their comfort zone, so I think she is perfect.

I picked Johnny Depp for Criminy because he is just so very odd. When I read any character who is dark and a little odd I always picture Mr. Depp in my head.

 I chose Helen Mirren for grandma, because well she's awesome.  I think she could be the sick/sweet grandma perfectly.

And last but DEFINITELY not least, I have picked Channing Tatum for Casper. Why? Well, I think he should be in every movie that I watch.... and that's about it.

I am loving the Mother's Day theme this week for the Blog Hop!

Q: What is the best mother/child relationship in a book you've read?

Reading within the YA genre, I don't often see very good parent relationships.  The parents are usually pretty absent in the books I read.  Last week I read Sweet Evil (which I LOVED) and the relationship between Anna and her adoptive mother Patti really stuck out to me. They had this open, honest relationship that really reminded me of the bond my mother and I have, and the bond I hope to have with my children when they grow up. Patti was definitely the parent in the relationship, she hadn't gone down to friend level, but she was Anna's friend. I think there is a fine balance that needs to be achieved to be a friend and confidante for your child but still remain their parent.  To me it was the perfect mother daughter relationship.

It's time for Feature & Follow again!

Q: What is the one thing you wish you could tell your favourite author?

Um... wow, I think this is the first time that I am stumped on the FF question. First of all, I couldn't even tell you who my favourite author is! I have authors that I thoroughly enjoy, but no author is perfect and there is always some body of work that I don't enjoy as much as others. Though I guess if I did have a favourite author I would probably say "You're my favourite author ever! Keep up the good work homeslice!" Yea, that's right, I would probably do something ridiculously dorky like call them homeslice and then regret embarrassing myself in front of my favourite author forever.

So, what's your answer? I can't wait to see some answers to this question that are obviously going to be better than mine! HA!

YAY! It's that time of the week for Feature & Follow! This weeks question:

Q: Have you ever had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then "broke-up" with later on in either the series or stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

For me the one character that sticks out like a sore thumb after pondering this question is Edward Cullen. Yes, Mr. McDreamy from Twilight. I'm not sure that I necessarily broke up with him while reading the series, though I have definitely stomped out that flame now. Like seriously stomped... and then spit on it. I read the whole series again recently, after my utter disgust with the movies made me question why I ever liked it in the first place, and I was so turned off by Edward. He's seriously a Stage 5 creeper, there was nothing in my second reading of the series that made me even remotely like him! He's weird! He's not sweet, he's a big ol' stalker! And he is so possesive that it's almost scary.

So yeah, this question sent me on a bit of a rant! I can't wait to see everyones answers, this is a good question for sure.  Leave me a link, I always stop by ;)

Time for the blog hop! I love this meme because everyone always has such differing answers and I love reading every single one of them. This weeks question:

What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaptation of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

This fear applies to almost every book that I love.  It is very hard for a movie to live up to any book because the attention to detail just can't be as full.  Details need to be skipped over to come in under a certain amount of time and I feel that leaving things to the imagination always makes things much more interesting.  With that said, the one book that I would be nervous for would be Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.  Daemon is such a jerk that I think it would be hard for anyone to fulfill the role and still make me fall in love with him as I did in the book.  Also, the effects of the aliens in their Luxen form would be hard to pull off without it looking cheesy, it looks so beautiful in my head.

It's that time of the week again, time for Parajunkee and Alison Can Reads blog hop! This week the question is.... drumroll please.......

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?


Actually, a book I just read, Pieces of Us by Margie Gelbwasser, recieved alot of hate because of the heavy, descriptive subject matter.  I read alot of reviews where people gave it 1 star and said it shouldn't be in the YA genre and that it is disgusting and over the top.  So, I had to read it with my own eyes, and I LOVED it. Yes, it dealt with some pretty heavy subject matter, it described alot of very uncomfortable situations and it was really heavy on the language.  But it drew emotions out of me, I felt sad, at no point in time was I happy or hopeful, but I was super emotional because of it.  I still think about it, and I think I will for a long time to come.  You can read my review of Pieces of Us here.

I also want to add, that I am really very hesitant about picking up books that have rave reviews.  I find that the books everyone loves and gives 5 stars too I am disappointed by.  I don't know if it is because I go into it with too high of expectations, but I always seem to be let down.

Q: Do you read one book at a time or do you switch back and forth between 2 or more books?

 






A: I read one book at a time.  If I read more than one piece of literature at a time my brain gets all majumbled and I remember events but then can't remember which book said event occured in, all in all, not so good for trying to write a cohesive review!

Welcome to feature and follow! 

This weeks question is:

What is the longest book you’ve read? What are your favorite 600+ page reads?

The only books I have read all the way through that are 600+ pages (I tend to shy away from them because I get bored pretty fast) are Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer and It by Stephen King.  I'm sure you all know everything there is to know about Breaking Dawn but It was fantastic and I highly recommend it! Stephen King is by far one of my favorite authors, he is the king of the macabre! Ahhhhhh Pennywise you haunt my dreams to this very day!

Q: What is the best book you've read in the last month? What is the worst book you've read in the last month?

 

The best book I have read in the last month is definitely Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, I loved everything about it and could not put it down!

The worst book I have read in the last month is one that I just finished today actually.  The First Days by Rhiannon Frater, there was very little I liked about this book and a whole lot that I didn't.  I had really high expectations for it because most of the reviews I had read were absolutely glowing but it didn't live up to my    expectations at all.

Q: Have you ever looked at book's cover and thought, This is going to horrible? But, was instead pleasantly surprised? Show us the cover and tell us about the book.

Yes, that has happened to me!  I came across the Louise Rennison books one day at the Wee Book Inn and thought "no freaking way" (as I DEFINITELY judge books by their covers) but picked one up anyway due to a recommendation from a friend and I was indeed pleasantly surprised!  I have now read this whole series and I enjoyed every one of them! (never thought I would make that tidbit of info public) They are the perfect amount of comic relief in the sea of serious dystopian tragedy and heartbreak I'm normally lost in.

It's that time of the week again! Blog Hop day! This weeks Feature & Follow question...

Q: What book would you love to see made into a movie or television show and do you have actors/actresses in mind to play the main characters?

  This is hard because generally Hollywood just ruins what I love so much about books.  IF PULLED OFF RIGHT...I would like to see Obsidian made into a movie because I think it would be really hot! I would love to see how they would pull of showing the Luxen in their true form, I think it would be gorgeous.  As for actors, I'm not too sure, I think a good Katie could be pulled off by Mila Kunis.  Daemon would be a tough one, because come on, who is that gorgeous!
