Waiting on Wednesday (15)

The Program (The Program #1)
by Suzanne Young
to be published April 2013 by Simon Pulse
Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone.

With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in.

And The Program is coming for them.

I just finished reading The Glimpse by Claire Merle and I loved Delirium by Lauren Oliver, I'm fascinated by the concept of regulating your feelings.  In my mind it is impossible, I'm always either laughing, crying, or supremely pissed off and the idea of having to hide that is something that I love to see played out on the pages.  Also, the MC's name is Sloane! HELLO! Best name EVER!

What are you waiting on this week? Leave a link!

  1. I would be a really crappy protagonist in one of these novels. I have repeatedly been voted by friends and family as the person with the WORST POKER FACE of all time.

Here's hoping that nothing like that ever happens to me, and that if it does, the threat of dying is enough to whip my emotions (and their corresponding expressions) into shape!

    Happy WoW!

  16. This sounds fascinating! I too love reading about books about governments, companies, etc. trying to control human emotion. So dramatic! Such a long wait though...

  17. Wow. That's not really how blog following works. This comment would make me NOT want to follow your blog. Jenni is a lot nicer than me. If you left this comment on my blog I would send it to my spam folder.

  19. Like you, I'm also kind of fascinated by the idea of regulating someone's feelings or the way that he or she thinks. I remember being absolutely floored the first time I read A Clockwork Orange!

I still haven't read Glimpse or Delirium, but both are on my to-read list! Looks like this one might be going on there as well! :)
