Rescued by a stranger.I’ve been holding off on writing my review of Easy because I really can’t think about the novel cohesively enough to even know where to start to express how much I loved it. So I took to Goodreads and looked over my status updates for it and found one that I think encompasses my thoughts pretty well, it reads: “This book is exactly what I imagine crack addiction to be like. You know, the insatiable highs & the devastating lows and all that jazz. Oh and the fact that I want more. MORE!”
Haunted by a secret
Sometimes, love isn’t easy…
He watched her, but never knew her. Until thanks to a chance encounter, he became her savior…
The attraction between them was undeniable. Yet the past he’d worked so hard to overcome, and the future she’d put so much faith in, threatened to tear them apart.
Only together could they fight the pain and guilt, face the truth—and find the unexpected power of love.
(Mature Young Adult/ New Adult)
At the heart of this awesome story is the cast of fantastic characters. I loved Jacqueline, she was sassy, fun and incredibly smart. But that being said, she wasn’t perfect either, she made bad decisions and was constantly learning from her mistakes & growing throughout the novel. She definitely made an immense transformation and watching her path to who she became was so great. Helping her along the way was Lucas. LUCAS, ugh where do I even start with him. I love him so much, he was everything a girl could want in a man. He had his dark and mysterious side and when you got through that he was so understanding and incredibly sweet. There are no words that I could put here to describe him that could ever do him justice, so I want to include a little passage that was the culminating point in my love for him.
We rolled again and I was under him, his hands tracing and circling, followed by his mouth. Then he unbuttoned my jeans and touched the zipper and everything crashed around me.
I tore my mouth from his. “Wait.”
“Stop?” he panted, watching me.
I bit my lip and nodded.
“Stop everything, or just go no further?”
“Just…just no further,” I whispered.
“Done.” He gathered me into his arms and kissed me, one hand tangled in my hair and the other caressing down my back, our hearts pulsing out a cadence that the musician in me translated into a concert of lust. –Page 141
I think that alone is just so damn sexy, he was such an attentive lover and I found myself hot and bothered whenever they got close.
That leads me to the next part that I loved so much about this story. I love the New Adult genre that it falls into. The characters aren’t in high school, they are in university and they actually have sex! How fun, right? The angst is still there but to me, the characters actually getting into bed and romping around is so satisfying and adds a whole new element to swooning for me.
Not only is there the added element of sex, but this story also deals with some pretty heavy issues. A lot of it focuses on rape and what a woman can do to empower herself. I liked how Tammara tackled the issue, the characters didn’t check out of life because of what happened, they found ways to empower themselves and prepare for any possibility in the future. There is a speech that the president of one of the sororities gives about how women need to stand up and stand together which had me yelling out “Fuck Yeah!” It was such a great speech.
I know I haven’t done this book justice, but I am stopping here because I will never achieve that anyway. All I can say is that you NEED to read this novel. If you don’t have it, get it and if it’s on your TBR, bump it up, you will not regret it!

I've been circling around this one because I'm not sure it was my kind of read, but you've definitely pushed me closer, Jenni :)
ReplyDeleteYAY for awesome heroines!
Aww I love that quote! And that you compared it to crank lol. It sounds like a really great read and Lucas is definitely on my good side already--though we usually agree on what makes a good love interest so I'm sure I'd like him.
ReplyDeleteYou said Fuck in your review! Teehee
I won a signed copy of this and I so wanted to fit it in this month, but I don't know if I will have time. I NEED to read it though!! I have been dying to read this book and every time I see another cab review like yours, it's hard to keep on track. I want to drop everything to read it now.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of buzz on this one so I bought a copy that arrived yesterday. I can't wait to meet Lucas because I love that dark and mysterious type that has a sweet side, like you mentioned. And that quote!! *sigh* I wish I could read this right now. I must make time very soon. Great review! :)

Yes, Jenni. YES! I am so so happy you loved Easy. Landon and Jaqueline were fabulous and I loved them so much. He was just perfect and his story completely broke my heart.
ReplyDeleteI promise you, all of Tammara's books are amazing. I love this review.
Oh my gosh. I have seen this book on numerous blogs but never looked at them because I don't usually read YA contemps. But I definitely want to read this one.
ReplyDeleteGreat, great review.
Thanks for sharing the little passage from Page 141! I feel like I want a Lucas after reading it ;)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I don't usually think of a book being like crack as a positive thing, but that's hilarious.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that excerpt? STEAMY AS FUCK. *fans self* A guy who doesn't pressure her to have sex? What is this magic?
You make this sound way better than I was imagining, especially with the quote. *slaps self for having gone crazy and then needing a book-buying ban*
I ADORED this book! One of my favorites of 2012 for sure! Awesome choice for an excerpt and great review!

This is one of my favorite books of 2012 as well. So many amazing and mind-blowing contemporaries this year and new adult is officially my favorite genre! I love the quote you picked out and I agree with you that Lucas is everything girls look for in a guy. And I love that he took the time to figure Jacqueline out, please her and be understanding, but it's never a good thing to be a complete doormat and he wasn't anything like that. He was supporting and kind, but still his own person. That's what I loved the best about him. Oh, Jenni, I'm so glad you loved this book!! It was oh, so great and I just can't wait to read something else from Tammara in this genre :) PS. I adored that little speech J gave after Buck *ahem* hurt that girl as well!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds incredible and I put it on my TBR. It is great when you love a book so much that you feel as though your review could never do it justice. It has won me over though. Thanks for the great review.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this one around a bit, but you've convinced me to put it on my TBR!
ReplyDeleteIm so glad you enjoyed this book!!
ReplyDeleteI constantly hear great things about it!!
I already have it on my TBR list, but I think I should start reading it soon!!
Fantastic review

Yay for loving Easy! I've been wanting to read this book for pretty much forever. I think that the New Adult is awesome and addicting, too. I can't wait to read about Jacqueline and Lucas! Lucas sounds like a freaking amazing guy. Fabulous review, Jenni!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you loved this one! Finally, we agree on a book. :) I'm really liking the new adult genre, too ... they're a lot more accessible than I thought they would be. Great review!
ReplyDeleteI've been slowly warming up to the New Adult novels. A few that I've recently read were fan-fricken-tastic! I swear, every time I walk down the bread/rolls isle at the supermarket I eye Easy which is on the second to the bottom shelf (the books/magazines are on the other side lol). You can tell how much thought I've given to Easy because I know its exact location. I don't know why I keep resisting this one. I consider you one of the bloggers whose opinion I can seriously trust. It's about time that I take your's as well as some other's love for this book into serious consideration. Imneed to just grab Easy next time I'm grocery shopping!!!
ReplyDeleteJenni - I'm so glad you loved this book! Easy arrived through my letterbox a few days ago and I can't wait to read it even more now because of your fabulous review! I hope I love it as much as you did.
ReplyDeleteI'm eager to see how the author deals with the tentative subject of rape and I really hope I will warm to Jacqueline! Lucas sounds so sweet - I want to meet a guy like him! Thanks for sharing the mini-excerpt! How lovely that he doesn't push things.
This will be my first New Adult book so I'm a little unsure of what to expect - although I know there will be lots of hot romance ;) Thanks for the fab review, Jenni!
What a fantastic quote! I've gotta get myself a copy of this book... actually I just gave my grandma a list and this one was on it... so hopefully I'll be reading it soon!
