Hello folks!
It's Monday and that means I am back with another BGDC post to kick off the week. This week our topic was a suggestion from Siiri of Little Pieces of Imagination (if you haven't checked out her blog yet, please do! This girl is as sweet as they come!) She wants us to show/talk about our favorite reading habits/places. I don't really have any favorite munchies to have on hand when I read so I am going to be highlighting the places I read and the devices that I read on.
This is my favorite reading spot! Unfortunately I live in Canada and I only get to use it about 4 months of the year but I take full advantage of it when I can. My backyard gets a ridiculous amount of sunshine and with the long days I can sometimes be found out there from about 9 AM right until 10 PM off and on. I have my comfy Martha Stewart wicker furniture and the yard is loaded with toys to keep my brats busy.
On days that are too chilly or when it starts to get dark out I curl up on my couch in my living room with a warm cup of tea or coffee and read there. This is a photo that I took for Instagram on a stormy night!
This is my reading blanket. I actually bought this blanket from Chapters so I like to think I am using to serve it's life purpose (if you look closely in the photo above you can see that it makes an appearance there as well.) It is seriously THE most comfortable blanket I have ever touched in my life!
And these are the devices that I read on. I read primarily on my Kindle but there is nothing that beats an iPad for reading PDF's so that's what I use it for. The PDF's on it look exactly like a real book and with the app that I use I get to read them in the sepia tone so it looks perfect. Everything else I read on the Kindle. I do read physical books of course but I do most of my reading on my ereaders.
So that's about it. I always have a cup of coffee or tea with me when I read but I don't usually eat, it just gets in the way of my reading!
So, what about you? What are you favorite reading places/habits?
Also, don't forget that we are always looking for topic suggestions for future posts.

Ooh, the blanket really does look warm and cozy. I'd happily take that off your hands any day. :) I read more physical books but I do love my kindle Paperwhite.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Jenni! <33
Your reading spot looks so comfy Jenni! We hardly get any decent weather in the UK either, when we do I try to make the most of it by reading outside. But I'm one of those readers who prefer reading inside and listening to the rain fall on my window. I mainly read on my Kindle keyboard. Thanks for sharing another great post with us! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your reading spot in your yard! It looks like so cozy and comfy. I can't do any reading sitting down. I always lie down on my bed or my long sofa when I read. Plus, I need to be alone to be really focused on my book. I read on my e-reader too. I love how it's light and can carry plenty of books!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Jenni!
That blanket looks amazing! I normally read indoors, although if the sun does come out I do make a beeline for the garden :) I love your outdoor setup, it looks very cool.
ReplyDeleteThe blanket looks very cozy! I would love to have a garden to read, but we have such a bad weather over here and I only have a small balcony. I hope to buy a house with a garden later, who knows :D
ReplyDeleteDude, I still hate you out of jealousy for the awesomeness of your reading tent. That thing is BADASS. And I want one. And damn you and your living in Canada so I can't visit it. SIGH.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I used to have a fuzzy awesome blanket like that, but Percy would knead it pull out threads and eventually it got a whole in it. Stupid cat.
Love this post!! I live in Massachusetts and we only get a few months of good outdoor reading weather too. It's either too cold, or too hot. (Most of the time it's too cold lol) Love that blanket! I have a reading blanket too!! Also a reading pillow. I am a big snack person too so my post will be filled with plenty of snack pics! I love this topic. Siri rocks for thinking of it!
ReplyDeleteI so want that blanket Jenni! It looks like the perfect reading blanket and makes me crave a snowy day where I can just curl up with it and read something awesome. I mostly read on the couch in the family room while the husband watches TV. This irritates him because he'll ask about something he's watching and I can only answer with a "what?" because I haven't been paying attention:) Love us.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I read Jenny's comment and LOL. I usually read in my bedroom or out on our terrace when it's warm and sunny. Or warm and rainy. I like to read on the terrace when it's sunny in Fall--it's some kinda quirk I have. I usually don't read in the living room unless I'm home alone or it's a commercial brake LOL. Oh, and when it's a soccer game or some other sports competition. I'll probably go watch the remaining Wimbledon matches on Eurosport in 20 minutes and try to finish Clockwork Princess while I'm at it. I like to drink hot chocolate or tea during winter time, but I usually don't eat while reading unless it's ice cream or some fruits during summer time LOL. Or milk and cookies that are basically like Oreos. Haha. Turns out that I do eat while reading. Btw, if I was your neighbour, I'd be the friendly kind and always try to sneak my way onto your porch since it seems so cozy:) Heh. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI spy Another Little Piece! What a strange book, but I still loved it. Your pavilion-like structure looks so cozy, and ahhh, that blanket DOES look comfortable. I didn't know Chapters sold blankets... (I don't live in Canada, though, so what do I know?)
ReplyDeleteThose look like some of the best places to read ever! I tend to read on my bed or on my couch, but now that they weather is nicer I like to read outside too. Yesterday I took my book and myself to the beach. I have my Kindle that I read a lot on, and for PDFs I read them on my comp or on my phone. I don't have one of those fancy iPad things!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your backyard area, Jenni! I wish that I had a spot to read like that at. I love your blanket. It looks so cozy. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like quite the reading oasis you created there, Jenni! Enjoy that summer weather!
ReplyDeleteMy cozy little spot on the left end of the couch is where I sit, with my drink and my iPad. I love your reading space outside. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you do that thing that as soon as the sun peeks out you gather up all your stuff and run outside to read?
ReplyDeleteI have an armchair in front of a big picture window that I like to curl up in, or reading in bed - that's my favourite!
I love your reading patio! We just put in a deck, so I'm working to convert part of it to my reading nook. Nothing beats a fantastic outdoor reading spot!
ReplyDeleteI love your outside little reading spot! I have a small balcony right off my bedroom (I have a townhouse) and I don't have outdoor furniture so I sometimes set up a camp chair. lol It works. For when it's cold, I really love reading in bed but I also really love napping so sometimes napping overrides the reading.
ReplyDeleteFellow Canadian here! I have to say a big 'amen' to reading outside while you can! Like you, I can most often be found reading outside on the deck at our cottage on the weekends during the summer. It's so peaceful to listen to the birds chirping and the absolute solitude of the forest and lake while I read. Unfortunately, the opportunity to do so seems all too brief :( Particularly this year! Up until a week ago, it could have been February for all I know, given the really nasty chill in the air. I'm so thankful we're finally experiencing a little heat and humidity, although a little goes a long way!
ReplyDeleteI can't eat while I'm reading either. It distracts me from my book and I'm always too worried about spilling something on my Kindle or print books. A cold glass of water or cup of tea is normally all I need to enjoy a nice reading spell :)
The blanket looks really soft! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I recently bought an ObusForme gel seat to make my reading chair more comfortable :) In relation to reading habit, I'm still developing one but what I've been attempting lately is to read at least one chapter of a book before turning on my computer. I used to turn on my computer first but then I got sucked into checking emails, twitter chat, etc. that I felt I wasn't giving my attention to the books.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. Happy Reading :)
I want that blanket! And your backyard area! :)
ReplyDeleteSo, which app do you read PDF's with on your ipad? I hate reading PDFs on my kindle. I think using my ipad for those is a GREAT idea! :)
The app is called PerfectReader and the icon is a black icon with a big yellow P with a smaller 2 beside it. So I guess maybe it is PerfectReader 2?
DeleteI don't have a reading spot :( I wish I did, but there's nowhere comfortable to read in my room and my living room is usually occupied by my roommates watching TV. I'm a night owl, so I'm generally up a couple hours longer than them. So when they finally clear out, the couch is a nice place to read. I need to get a reading chair for my room (my ceiling is slanted, so I can sit up in bed).
ReplyDeleteWeird question, but...do you know what brand the blanket is? I'm really picky about blankets and always looking for comfortable ones!
ReplyDeleteIt's just a Chapters/Indigo blanket, at least that is what the tag says :)
DeleteI love this topic and seeing your awesome outdoor reading area AND ridiculously comfy looking blanket (from Chapters?? How long ago?) pretty much made my morning :D I agree though that being from Canada means limited time to read outdoors - my hammock under the trees is sadly underused for reading but here's hoping we get a nice looong Summer! Thanks for sharing girl and I like your comment about not really eating while reading. I don't either but tea? YES please.
ReplyDeleteLove your outdoor reading nook :) The canopy is beautiful! After seeing how comfy it looks to read in that blanket I am REALLY regretting not getting that blanket from chapters around Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could read outside, but the mosquitoes are TERRIBLE at my house. Of course, before they become such a nuisance, I love reading out on the deck in the sunshine. It's perfect! Other than that, I usually read on the couch. :)
