This week our topic was picked by Jessirae from Words, Pages, And Books. She wanted to talk about 5 books that we want to read over again. Unfortunately I've never re-read a book or even wanted to re-read a book so I talk about why I think that is.
So, I need to know this week; am I the only one who has no interest in re-reading novels? Do you re-read them? Why or why not??
I totally agree with you. I did re-read Harry Potter and sometimes when new books in a series come out I think I should re-read but then I never do because of the fact like you pointed out there are too many other books and not enough time shahs. Good video!!! Looking forward to the next ones.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, before starting the blog, I didn't know MUCH books, so i did re-read books sometimes. Especially Meg Cabot books, i don't think I can ever get bored of them! But i can see your point! Thanks for being honest!

I've always re-read my favorite books, until I started blogging. Now I just don't have the time. And I don't know when I'll have the time to re-read in the near future, but I'm hopeful. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jenni!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I like to re-read a series before the next book comes out. I have re-read all of the TMI books before the next book comes out. I don't really have time to anymore, but I really do like to get back into the world sometimes if it's a series I love. I don't know that I would want to re-read a stand alone, but you know, maybe years down the road if I don't remember exactly what it's about I might pick it up again. There are a ton of books I wish I could re-read for the first time though just to get that same feeling I had.
ReplyDeleteI seldom re-read books numerous times, except for series like Harry Potter and the Shopaholic series. Sometimes re-reading does give me a new perspective or appreciation about a certain character. For instance, Bloodlines by Richelle Mead. The first time I read it, I didn't like the book, mainly because I didn't feel I could connect with Sage. After a few months, I picked it up and re-read it and I started seeing Sage as someone I could relate to. And re-reading the book helps me fall in love with the series and I was eager to pick up Golden Lily when it came out. I guess we'd all feel different about whether to re-read or not, and I enjoyed watching you shared your thoughts with us. Thank you, Jenni!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE rereading, as you know because I totally tried to convert you on Twitter. I haven't gotten to reread much since I started blogging. I just reread my first book in the last two years. My first reread review will be going up later this week actually.
ReplyDeleteWhile there are a few things that I loved that I wouldn't want to revisit so they can stay magical, I think I prefer to have an accurate picture of the book in my mind. I don't want to go around recommending a book to everyone and then discover that it's actually awful when they all end up hating me. I sort of feel like I can't REALLY know a book until I've read it at least twice. On my first read, I'm usually caught up in the story and miss a lot of the artistry involved in the syntax and diction, but on a later read-through I can pay a lot more attention to detail.
I only reread the ones I really love..and that is really only a handful. Really fun idea to this vlogging project!
ReplyDeleteI really only ever reread books when I'm in a reading slump and don't want to take the chance of reading another shitty book to add to my slump. For instance, I just recently reread A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks when I was in a huge reading slump, and it got me right out of it. Though I will only reread books that I am one hundred percent sure that, no matter what, I will still love by the end of the reread. I would hate to love a book the first time around only to reread it and realize it wasn't as amazing as I thought it was the second time around. I also reread the Harry Potter series when I was in a slump last summer. I don't see myself rereading the Harry Potter series again any time soon, because afterwards I finished I was just depressed and no other book I read was able to live up to the Harry Potter series, so, ironically, I was in another slump.
ReplyDeleteOoo what a cool feature, Jenni! Well, honestly, it really just depends on the mood I'm in. If I'm feeling kind of sentimental and ya know, need a pick me up, chances are I'll probably pick up one of my favorite light-hearted reads like Confessions of a Shopaholic, or just any of Meg Cabot's books because they're SO funny and cute and never fail to make me laugh. However, although I do reread books sometimes, there are certain books, such as mystery novels or thrillers that I just can't stand to reread because I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, and for those type of books that's a huge part of the thrill. So, I mean, I do reread but not a lot. It's kind of a meh topic for me, but hand me a Harry Potter novel and I'll reread it's ass off!!! :P
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you, Jenni. I RARELY re-read books. I just DON'T have the time! I make one exception and I try to re-read Memoirs of a Geisha every year and that is because that's my favorite book. I DO intend to re-read Harry Potter at some point though.
ReplyDeleteAs for the blurb reading, I ALWAYS read blurbs. I'm too picky not too. I need to know what I am getting myself into. I get pissed when blurbs are misleading.
Anyway...great video and great topic.
I re-read books quite a bit. In fact, I read The Other Boleyn Girl about... oh, maybe 2 dozen times at least? I haven't re-read a book in a while, but several come to mind that I _want_ to re-read: Cinder, Throne of Glass, Tiger Lily, Under the Never Sky... to name a few.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks AMAZING! I love you. That is all.
Dude, I was JUST going to start reading that Miranda Kinneally series! YOU'VE RUINED THE SURPRISE! Ha! Actually, I'll probably forget it. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of listening to a book you've read on audio. The nice thing about that is that the time you'll spend listening to that book is probably time you wouldn't be reading, so it's not time wasted.
But really, you're not alone! I have reread books -- even since blogging -- but I don't do it as much as I'd like to. Maybe once I really get into my groove or something come the New Year. We'll see.
I feel EXACTLY the same! I have only ever reread a book ONCE and it was bc I bought the 3rd in the series and had absolutely NO idea what I had read - it had been like 5 years. And surprisingly I remember nothing. NOTHING! haha. It was the Mortal Instruments series. I think some series I wouldn't mind re-reading. Like HP and, yes sue me, Twilight, but I just rather read something new so it probably won't ever happen until I read HP to my son! :D
ReplyDeleteI've re-read The Mortal Instrument Series, Harry Potter, and the Lorien Legacies series. Besides Harry Potter, I re-read them because I was trying to catch up before the newest book came out. I TRIED to read Hush, Hush again, but found that my memory started coming back, so I just dumped the idea.
ReplyDeleteNow, I usually DON'T re-read my books because I have so much good books to read that I just don't have the time to re-read a whole damn series. I'd love to, but I don't have the time.
