Book Buzzers (6)
This week it was my turn to pick the topic and in honour of Halloween week I decided to get everyone to talk about their favourite paranormal character (vampire, werewolf, Valkyrie mermaid, immortal etc.) Watch my video to see what I picked, why I picked it and some recommendations I have for you!

Yay! I love zombies!
ReplyDeleteI've kind of separated zombie books into 2 categories: 'real' zombies and 'not-really' zombies. Books like Dearly Departed and My Life as a White Trash Zombie fit into the 'not-really' category. That way, I can enjoy them without getting upset because they're not really zombies.
Woot!! Zombies!! I picked zombies too. I recorded my vlog on Saturday when I was in my costume too!!!
ReplyDeleteI like your take, Jenni! But for me, um ... zombies aren't my favorites. I guess I'd rather feel the rush of urgency in a spy type of thrillers. I can't quite pinpoint a specific type of paranormal characters that I like because ultimately I only like the aspects of immortality, beauty, youthfulness and shape-shifting qualities that these paranormal characters share. I guess I'm being fluffy today :)
ReplyDeleteZombies are the best!!! :D You should try reading Warm Bodies...that one has a bit of romance in it...it sounds kind of weird, but I think you'd like it. It's more hopeful, and it has some of the most hilarious lines in it...the zombies are like married in it and stuff, and they raise the zombie kids...so funny. And at one point zombie sex was mentioned...actually walked in on...soooooo hilarious! I'm still laughing when I think of that now! haha
ReplyDeleteOh...and zombies do not have jobs in Jonathan Maberry's Benny Imura series. People have jobs where they kill zombies, but zombies don't have jobs...they get killed in that series pretty much on sight. :P
I think Warm Bodies is the biggest one I have to recommend. I just really loved that book. :D
I don't know which type is my favourite...I try not to choose. haha I like to mix it up. :) But zombies are definitely ones that I enjoy. :D
Zombies! I will send you some zombie nightmares!
ReplyDeleteI don't read a lot of zombie novels, but I do like that the point of a zombie novel isn't for people to fall in love with them, but they're out for the kill. When I pick up a zombie novel, THAT'S what needs to happen, rather than humanizing the zombies.
BUT, what is so wrong with werewolves without their shirt. ANSWER ME THIS!
If I had to pick a favourite, I still like the vampires. While I love the classic type of books, where vampires are out for the kill and drink human blood and don't fall in love, I still look for love in books. Maybe that's why zombies aren't my favourite.
Hey, hey, hey, don't hate on Dearly, Beloved, you! I'm serious. I was a little... weirded out by the premise too, but it turned out to be really well done, and still has that scare factor with zombies. You see, there are zombies that have this chip that allows them to retain their humanity and preserves their bodies, though if they beat themselves up, there's no hope, and then you have the terrible, mindless man-eating ones, and... well, you get the idea. I'm telling you IT IS AWESOME. And now that I'm done rambling on the defensive, I want to try those zombie books you mentioned. Because even though i loathe zombie nightmares - they're too apocalyptic and that's what WEIRDS ME THE EFF OUT - they are so well-written. My favorite of this year would be This Is Not a Test.
ReplyDeleteAnd you got something against pale, glistening, and/or glittering vampires and hot naked werewolves, my friend? Because we can take this outside...
I have to read a zombie book! I'm actually a fan of "romanticizing" as long as it's not like BAM, THEY'RE IN LOVE, kind of thing.
