Book Buzzers (10)

Hey Guys!

This week Jessirae from Books, Pages and Love was in charge of picking our topic and she chose pet peeves.  So we are talking about what our pet peeves are when it comes to books we read.  So watch on to see what my personal pet peeves are as well as what some of my twitter followers had to say about the topic!

So what are some of your pet peeves when it comes to books? Make sure you let me know down below. Also, remember we are always looking for suggestions for topics so if you have any let me know!

  1. I knew that was going in there. LOL! Hilarious! I am never going to hear the end of that one.

I loved almost all of the pet peeves everyone came up with. I am with you on love triangles. I usually dislike them, but if they are done right I can handle it. I am being sent a copy of Black City and now I am worried. O_O

  2. Whoa, I did not know the Macs did that. That sounds obnoxious. I'm pretty sure the blog name you just said for Jessirae is different than what's written up top.

Instalove - yup. Ha, no sparks when you touch. This is not how things happen. Stop setting people up for failure! Real life can't compare to that fake shit.

Love Triangles - She can't love two dudes at the same time. BULL. FREAKING. SHIT.

    Baha, constantly stimulated.

You can get away with not explaining how a dystopia came to be, but only in a first person, because they might just not know. Still, I do prefer when they throw a little something at it, like Mira Grant does in the Newsflesh Trilogy, which *cough* YOU SHOULD READ RIGHT NOW *cough*

Text Lingo: Ummm, I do talk like that, but I don't write like that. :/

    YEAH! I dominate your video.

    Whisper-yelling!

BAHAHAHA, all of Twitter will swivel at Kara.

  3. Haha!! OMG your vlog is awesome!! I totally agree with you on the insta-love!! I can't wait for you to see my vlog. It kinda sucks being the last one to go because everyone else has already said everything. I like to record mine in advance. I have so many pet peeves in mine. I go on, and on, and on lol!!
Oh I agree with Megan about 3rd person present tense!! I have a hard time with it.
Ahhh I agree with the I realeased a breath... blah blah!! That first quote is actually one of my pet peeves in my vlog!!
Bwhahahaha!! Kara!! OMG she is so funny!!
Great vlog babe!! Oh man, now I feel like such a picky person. I have so many!!

  4. My Mac doesn't make sounds when I record a vlog! That's funny. :)

I hate love triangles! Well, especially love triangles that happen just because. And that's hilarious about Black City! I've read books like that where there's always a shock when two people touch ... it can be way overdone!

I've read some books where the beginning is boring, boring, and then the ending is finally exciting. I prefer a book to grab me right off the bat and hold on until the end. I guess I don't like lulls either!

Text lingo! YES! I hate that! Actually, I hate it when there IS texting in books and it's ALWAYS shorthand. When I write a text, I write out all the words and all the punctuation. I can't be the only one!

Those quotes are great! They happen WAY too much!

    Awesome pet peeves!

  5. Great vlog Jenni! I agree with all your pet peeves. Why can people no longer fall in love like normal people. I'm sick of sparks and 'oh, you are my destiny' crap.

I actually used to say WTF a lot. Not so much now. And I've heard people say lol. Not the letters, but just sound it out. It's so dumb! Just laugh if it's funny. But I guess most people aren't actually laughing when they text lol anymore. Anyways...

I also want to add my personal pet peeve: the word sashay. I hate it! It seems like girls are sashaying everywhere! Just walk like a normal person!

  6. Jenni, I absolutely LOVED this vlog. It was so much fun and great to hear what readers dislike in books. Don't stop vlogging. You're so great at it!

  7. Bahaha. I totally swiveled my ass for Kara just now on Twitter! And dude, fireworks are completely believable! It happens all the time for me! That's how we light our stove at night! Omg that sounds totally dirty!

  8. HAHA. This cracks me up. I love this week's topic. LOL. Those are some fabulous Peeves. I have a couple random ones though....

-When a character was one AMAZING opportunity to eat DELISH food and then for some plot-driven reason, all of a sudden LOSES THEIR APPETITE. I mean Come. On. It's FOOD! EAT IT!

-When characters have BFF's that are unaware of the main plot and then they just don't tell me creating friction and emotional problems later. No. Just. No.

-When the book is all about the romance till the VERY end, like you said, and it feels like a Prequel. I totally agree. It needs to well establish the beginning and get started, not leave a hint so the NEXT book can start the series.

Ah well. Those are my geeks! Happy Monday Jenni!

  9. Watching your vlog is always fun :)

I'm usually okay with most of the things being mentioned, but I totally agree with you on books that tell us how bad-ass the heroines are only for us to later find out that they are just so-so. I also have issues when the main characters snort like every other pages.

  10. Oops! When I said "text lingo" I didn't mean when people talk like that--I meant when characters are texting and it's all improper grammar and OMG i luv u k thx bye. That kind of stuff. It drives me CRAZY. I like to text with full words and sentences. (:

  11. YES YES YES. YES TO AAAAAALL OF THIS. Ugh.

Insta-love. Ew. Get it away from me. Ugh. No. Insta-lust, fine. Insta-love, however? Oh, you poor, naive little girl.

Love triangles... I *can* like it, if it's well written, but it seems like most aren't. I love the love triangle in Unearthly, because it's not predictable, unlike most.

Text-speak: I'm around teenagers all the time, and I've NEVER heard this. It would probably irritate the crap out of me in a book.

"I released a breath I didn't realize I was holding." If I have to read this one more time...

"I heard screaming and realized it was coming from me." WHO DOES THAT? HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW YOU'RE SCREAMING? NO. NO.

I think I'm running out of space here, but I agree with EVERYTHING here. *swivels away*

    1. And whisper-yelling. How the hell do you do that? One day, it will be my mission to speak entirely in whisper-yells.

  12. I actually don't hate insta-love, if it makes sense. I pretty much fell in love w/my hubby right away. BUT...I hate the "sparks when touching" scenario. It's SO overdone and drives me batty.
    Great vlog!

  13. Insta-love, ugh. But like Andrea says, if it makes sense LATER ON, then FINE, I can kind of deal with it. But if it's just all sparks and fireworks and a hot guy.. it sucks. And then the heroine being a dumb b**** because she's all "head over heels", it's so annoying! I mean, I like heroines who pick themselves back up even if the person they love has left... not wimpy girls who don't even have a brain anymore. Maybe that's just to show the extent of how heartbroken she is, but honestly, common sense does not just leave.

  14. I agree - I believe in lust at first sight! First (usually) comes lust at first sight, then it grows into love :)

I couldn't help but keep thinking of Twilight when you were listing off all the pet peeves. ;p Brutal love triangle? Check. Weak heroin once she meets the dude? Check. Long, run-on sentences? Check. Oops, you said sentence fragments. You get the drift!

Also, I was totally distracted by that ladies hot tushy in the photo on your wall! LOL ;)

  15. This post! I can't say how much I agree with everything you said in addition to everything your followers said. Especially on hating insta-love and those quotes you mentioned - UGH! For me, my pet peeve is any sort of cliche. And Black City was THE book of cliches!! I was almost sort of impressed how many cliches the author was able to fit into one book, actually. These videos are SO much fun - keep up the good work!!
